Lynne Walker

Lynne was elected to the town board following a ‘by-election’ in January 2018. She previously served on the board for around 18 months in 2007-2008.

Lynne has been a resident of Nhulunbuy since 1990 and has worked as a high school teacher, community relations with NABACLO/Alcan/Rio Tinto and served in the Territory Legislative Assembly as the Member for Nhulunbuy.

During her time in Nhulunbuy Lynne has raised a family and served on many committees. Currently she is president of Gove Peninsula Festival, secretary of the Arnhemland Historical Society and a member of Gove Arts Theatre and the local RSL.

Her roles over the years have had a strong community focus and she understands the importance of strong representation.

At a time when Nhulunbuy transitions to a post-mining economy, Lynne is keen to make sure that the town is well-serviced and that constituents get best value for their annual “service fees” (rates). She is also keen to see that the transition includes moving to a model of local government which better represents the interests of rate-payers and to ensure the long-term future of Nhulunbuy with its rich social fabric. Lynne is happy to be contacted at any time by locals to raise matters of concern.
