COVID-19 UPDATE – 1st April 2020

To assist the community the following update provides brief information on services and facilities.

Relief Measures

The Nhulunbuy Corporation understands there are businesses and Not for Profit groups experiencing challenging times and will be offering rate and water utility relief.

Relief will be in the form of:

Extensions in payment dates, for rates (2nd instalment) from 28th June to 28th September 2020
Extensions in payment dates for utility payments, 1st quarter for 2020 payments extended for 3 months, from May to August
Rate and Water Utility relief, on a case by case basis

Communicating with us

The office is closed to the public as of the 8.00 a.m. – 30th March 2020.

Dog Registration forms can be accessed via phone enquiry or the website
Completed forms can be submitted via email (scan or photo)

Airport

Please be aware of the NT Government Border Controls, this does require all travellers to self-isolate before returning to Nhulunbuy

We are cooperating with the NT Police in relation to screening of incoming passengers as of 4.00 p.m 23/03/2020

Aquatic Centre

  • Closed, effective 6.30 p.m., 25 March 2020, following new Australian Government control
    measures.
  • Memberships will be extended – along with refunds for newly purchased memberships.

Town Hall

  • Closed, effective 25 March 2020, following new Australian Government control measures.
  • All functions such as the Nhulunbuy Town Markets due to operate in the Town Hall are now
    cancelled.

Town Centre

Our Town Centre Care Takers have been working to ensure the town centre is kept clean and tidy
whilst also increasing cleaning to the following.

  • Public toilets cleaned and disinfected 3 times a day
  • Handrails and seating throughout town centre cleaned and disinfected 3 times a day

Waste Facility and Roadside Kerb pick-up

  • EFTPOS transactions only – all residential general and green waste remains FREE
  • No change to current operations.

Parks, Playgrounds and Skatepark

  • Closed, effective 8.00 a.m, 30 March 2020, following new Australian Government control
    measures

Water Supply and Infrastructure

We have a range of measures in place to manage the impacts of COVID-19. Our priority
during this time is to continue to provide the community with access to safe water to
protect the health and wellbeing of our people.

Drinking water safety

Our tap water is safe to drink.
There is no evidence that COVID-19 is transmitted via drinking water and we have strict measures
and controls in place to ensure the safety and quality of drinking water.
We have adequate trades people and operators in place to ensure safety measures are adhered to
and the continuity of service.
